Third of seven children of Edward Treharne Ashton and Effie Walker Morris. Baptized when about eight years old. Married Rachel Grace Jeremy January 3, 1906; seven children including Apostle Marvin J. Ashton. Served LDS mission to Great Britain 1907- 1909. Ordained High Priest by Heber J. Grant and called as Bishop of Wasatch Ward 1917- 1924. Later Granite Stake President. First Counselor in LDS Presiding Bishopric (LeGrand Richards) April 6, 1938 until death.
