KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Juan Cruz Rocha, 83, of Kansas City, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013, in a Kansas City hospital.

He was born October 20, 1929, in St. Joseph, son of Mercedes and Felix Rocha.

He graduated from Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary, Christian Brothers High School, and then went on to the St. Joseph Junior College and Iowa State University. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Northwest Missouri State University, and a Masters Degree from Fort Hayes State. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marines and is a veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a State Director for migrant education from the State of Kansas. While in high school he was selected as an All City Basketball player. He attended St. James Catholic Church.

Juan was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Laurie Rocha; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Rocha and Adolpho Rocha; and a sister, Nadine Cortez.

Survivors include three sons, Tim and John Rocha of Riverside, Mo. and Thomas Rocha of St. Joseph; a brother, Arthur Rocha and wife, Julia of St. Joseph; two grandsons, Joshua Rocha and Barry Chadd; and a granddaughter, Riley Rocha.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013, at the St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Richard Rocha, Celebrant. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
