Gerszewski - Medard John, 74, Firth, formerly Lincoln, died Tuesday (6/3/03). Resided in Lincoln until April 2003. Born, Grafton N.D. (6/25/28) to Florentine and Verna (Misialek) Gerszewski. Attended school in Harrison Township, N.D. Was a jack of all trades, but his primary occupation was mechanic. Worked for Leeway Motor Freight from the late 1950s to the late 1970s in Orange County, Calif. Moved to Staplehurst in 1978 where he started his own mechanic business. In the late 1980s, he went to work for Blue Valley Co-Op in Seward County where he remained until retirement. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1950. Served: post-World War II cleanup; in the Korean War, drove tank. Sergeant. Received Purple Heart for injury to the head during the Korean War. Enjoyed helping people, spending time with his grandson, Josh, fixing, building things and driving. He was a stock car racer and truck driver in younger years. He will be remembered most for his generous heart, great sense of humor and his big smile.

Survivors: daughters, Karen Coder, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mary Larsen, Lincoln, Nancy D'Anna, Gilbert, Ariz.; mother, Verna, Grafton, S.D.; six grandchildren, Kristen Parker, Brittany Parker, Danielle Parker, Joshua Larsen, Katie Coder, Devon Tyrrell. Preceded in death by father, Florentine; brother, Adrian.

Services: 9 a.m. Saturday, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Lincoln Memorial Park, 6700 S. 14th St. Rosary service:7 p.m. Friday, funeral home.
