Helen Roberta Auch Sowerwine Jones, 89, died May 30, 2004, at St. Vincent Health Care in Billings.

She was born June 12, 1914, in Philadelphia, Pa., to John Raymond and Edythe Evalina West Auch. She attended elementary schools in Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey. She graduated from Westfield High School in Westfield, N.J., and attended Friends Academy on Long Island, N.Y.

She married Elbert Orla Sowerwine Jr. on Feb. 22, 1933, in Stanhope, N.J. They had Sue-Ann, Sandra, Elbert O. III and J. Frederick. After living in New Jersey and Virginia, the family moved to Wapiti, where they purchased the Broken H and Trout Creek ranches in 1953. She loved working outside on the ranch in Wapiti Valley and was involved in all ranching operations. She was a 4-H leader and took club members to countless livestock judging sessions around Park County.

After a divorce, she married Thomas Daniel Jones on Dec. 13, 1957, in Pinedale. They had William Raymond. They lived in Wyoming, Idaho and finally in the Four Corners/Belgrade, Mont., area 1965-78.

She worked for the Kessler and Darigold dairies in Bozeman for many years and was a laboratory technician. She managed her son Elbert's motel, Trout Creek Inn, in Wapiti from its opening in 1978 until her retirment and move to Billings in 1984. She moved to Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community in 2000.

She was an avid reader, interested in history and genealogy, a sports enthusiast, animal lover, had a green thumb and enjoyed plants in her home and yard, enjoyed classical music and operas, and loved her family above all.

She is survived by her children Sue-Ann (Edwin) Jacobson of Billings, Sandra (Caesar) Aleman of Donna, Texas, Elbert (Pam) Sowerwine of Cody, J. Frederick (Judy) Sowerwine of Belgrade and William (Tami) Jones of Toston, Mont., 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and family services will be at a later date with burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bozeman. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
