First President of the University of Oklahoma during the first 16 years of its existance, 1892-1908. The first year classes were held on the second floor of a store building. There were 69 students and four members of the faculty. Today, the University of Oklahoma has a student body of over 30,000 and a beautiful campus full of academic buildings, residence halls, athletic facilities and museums.

President of the University of New Mexico, 1912-1919.

In 1930 he was inducted into Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

In 1930 he was designated President Emeritus of the University of Oklahoma.

In 1945 the David Ross Boyd Professorship was established in his honor by the board of regents.

Education: Bachelor's degree, College of Wooster (Ohio) in 1878, followed by Master's degree in 1881. An honorary degree of doctor of philosophy was awarded by College of Wooster in 1898.
