David Thurston was the second son of David and Eunice (Whitney) Thurston of Marlboro, New Hampshire. He was born in Leominster, Mass. October 17, 1768 and married in 1808, Fanny Darling. She was born Dec. 27, 1788, daughter of Rev. David and Esther (Metcalf) Darling of Keene, N.H.

Mr. Thurston moved to Oswego, N.Y. about 1812. He was a farmer and died there Jan. 6, 1858; she died June 3, 1860. His daughter, Mary Almeda, says, "My father was a man of more than ordinary intelligence, a great reader, in physique faultless, tall, well-built, vigorous and in perfect health till past the age of 70. Tho unfortunate financially, he was an honest man, a good father, and a christian. ...". Children:

(1) Fanny - born June 27, 1809 in Marlboro, N.H. and married Printice Ransom, a merchant in Iowa City, Iowa.
(2) Nancy - born Dec. 4, 1812 in Marlboro, N.H. and died May 9, 1814.
(3) Nancy Darling - born March 24, 1814 and married Drury Thompson in Mobile, Alabama.
(4) George Waldo - born April 19, 1816 and married Mary Ann Collins.
(5) David Whitney - born April 8, 1818 and married Elizabeth S. Bowen.
(6) John Metcalf - born October 16, 1820 and married 1st Sarah Wood, 2nd Persis Wright. He is a salesman and real estate agent in Utica, N.Y.
(7) Mary Almeda - born Feb. 10, 1823 and married 1st Anson Garrison of Cold Spring, N.Y., married 2nd Rev. Benjamin Pomeroy of the Troy (N.Y.) Conference.
(8) James Sidney - born October 14, 1825 and married Phebe Ann Van Benschoten.
