CEDRIC MONTGOMERY DURST

Cedric M.(Ced) Durst, son of Cedric M. and Leona A. Durst, was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 3, 1930 and passed away on August 15, 2006 in Anaheim, California.

He spent his early childhood in Los Angeles, moving to San Diego with his family in 1936 where his father played professional baseball and managed the Pacific Coast League San Diego Padres. He graduated from Point Loma High School in San Diego, class of 1949, and attended San Diego State University under the GI Bill, graduating in 1955.

Ced served in the U.S. Army from 1951 through 1953, spending the major part of this time in Korea. He was very proud to have been able to give something for his country and felt that the experience helped to build in him a compassion for all people and all nature. He returned to San Diego where he became a technical writer.

He was employed by companies in both San Diego and Orange Counties, the longest period (over 15 years) with Continental Data Graphics. He maintained residences in both counties over his working years remaining in Orange County after his retirement.

Ced was born into a family of 'sports fanatics.' Although he didn't actively participate in sports himself, he followed, supported, and attended the sports his children and grandchildren were involved in; primarily track, baseball, volleyball, and basketball. He was also an avid fan of professional sports, particularly the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Chargers, trying not to alienate family and friends from either city.

Ced was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Marie Durst, who succumbed to breast cancer. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Cheryl Durst, three grandchildren, Travis and Christina Durst and Nicole McIntyre, sister and brother-in-law, Autumn and Bud Keltner, and longtime friend, Michael Elliott.

Ced was a loving, caring, father, grandpapa, grandfather, brother, uncle, companion, and friend. We will miss him more than words can convey.

Services will be held on Monday, August 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn, Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA (Orange County).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 1400 SW 5th Ave., Suite 530 Portland, Oregon 97201 or 1-503-552-9160 or the charity of your choice.
