Charles H. Shirk
MIFFLINBURG -- Charles H. Shirk, 60, of 906 Market St., died unexpectedly Wednesday at 12:25 p.m. in the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he was admitted shortly before his death.
He was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Millmont, the son of the late Newton S. and Stella Speese Shirk. He was married in 1943 to the former Betty Beaver, who survives.
Mr. Shirk retired in 1976 after 33 years as a postal clerk in the Mifflinburg Post Office.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg; a member of the Thomas Clapham Post No. 410 American Legion, Mifflinburg; and Yoder-Zimmerman Post 1964 VFW, Mifflinburg.
Mr. Shirk was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army for four years and took part in the European campaign where he was seriously wounded.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Dennis L. Shirk of Mechanicsburg, and Charles Michael Shirk, at home; three grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters, Miss Dorothy E. Shirk of Lewisburg; Donald L. Shirk of Millmont; Harold L. Shirk of Biloxi, Miss.; and Laird L. Shirk of Mifflinburg.
The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Struck Funeral Home, Mifflinburg... Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery, Mifflinburg.
Graveside military rites will be conducted by Post No. 410 American Legion, Mifflinburg.
