Theodore Scherer
Theodore "Ted" W. Scherer, 70, of New London, died at 1:11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born Aug. 9, 1931, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred W. and Eula Leaverton Scherer. He married Arlene L. Hoit on June 3, 1952, in Burlington.
Mr. Scherer was a 1949 graduate of Burlington High School and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict, serving from 1952 to 1954. He was a retired machinist at J.I. Case Co., with 23 years of service. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant and Union Local 807.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Christie L. Scherer and Julie A Garmoe, both of Mount Pleasant; one son, Ronald W. Scherer of New London; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at Elliott Chapel in New London. There will be no family visitation.
The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Scherer will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Nicholas Adam and Pastors Tom Palmer and Charlie Sander officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.
Memorials have been established for Fellowship Cup and St. Alphonsus Building Fund.
