Jess attended Rockdale Public School, went to Joliet Catholic High and graduated from Joliet Central High School. He served in the United States Army for three years and while in the Army he won the Alaska Weight Lifting Championship. Jess designed the insignia for the 502nd AAA Gun Battalion and was a golden glove boxer.
He was an avid mechanic and worked at Fisher Body where he retired after 38 years of service. Jess was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Jane (nee Lucas) Serrato of 53 years; three sons James, Jess Jr., Bill (Serena) Serrato; two grandchildren Billy and Korinne who he loved very much; one great-grandson Aiden; two brothers Carlos and Mike Serrato; two sisters Evan Linda Serrato and Anna Serrato; one brother-in-law Steve (Judy) Lucas; good friend Bob Figurowski; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Jess was preceded in death by parents Amador and Eduvijes (nee Fernandez) Serrato; four brothers Vicente, Carlos, George, and Ralph Carrillo.
Visitation: Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Tezak Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Chapel Service: Thursday at Tezak Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m.
Interment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
