Robert Newton Mcbay was born February 18, 1872 to General Marion McBay and Serepta A. in Muddy Fork, Pike County, Arkansas. He married Lou Ada Barnes, daughter of John Wiley Barnes and Martha Elizabeth Childress, on January 1, 1897 in Howard County, Arkansas. Robert and Ada had six children, Jesse Burtis, Bessie Myrtle, Edie Ola, Dovie Lee, Dolphus (Doc) Oren and David William McBay. Robert could not read or write and the 1920 Howard County census tells us he was working at the local sawmill. Family records show Robert's death on October 24, 1929 in Nathan, Pike County, Arkansas. He apparently died without a death record being filed and without the purchase of a headstone. He is buried in Academy Cemetery at Biggs Chapel Methodist Church. According to family members, as you enter the cemetery from the street, his grave is in the far left corner area marked with a stone.
