Services for Eugene D. "Gene" Dearman will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Harris officiating. Interment will be at Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Dearman, 89, of Meridian, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Anderson Regional Medical Center. He played football at Meridian High and helped his team win the State Championship, after graduating he attended Ole Miss University on a football scholarship and played his freshman year until joining the Army.

While serving in World War II, Mr. Dearman was wounded. Upon returning home, he completed his education at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church for more than 60 years, but most of all he was a devoted family man, loving husband, father and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gwen Dearman of Meridian; son, Reggie Dearman (Kathy) of Collinsville; Daughter, Melanie Fuelling (Orrin) of Meridian; grandchildren, Andrew Dearman, Sarah Fuelling Holt (Beau) and Chris Fuelling; great- grandchildren, Drew Morris, Christopher Holt and Joshua Holt; and his nephews, Christopher Jenkins and Michael Jenkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Ludie Dearman; and sisters, Mildred Dearman and Rowena Jenkins.

Pallbearers are Stanley Shannon, Parker Shannon, Lonnie Frank Shannon, Ricky Fields, Marty White, Perry Wayne Miller and Andrew Dearman.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Ken Boardman's Sunday School Class.

Visitation will be today, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
