Hon. Lemuel Grosvenor DOWNES died Thursday afternoon at the old homestead, Main Street, Calais, Me. where he was born in 1839. Early in life he was united in marriage to Augusta WARDSWORTH d/o L.L. WARDSWORTH, for many years connected with the iron and steel works in Pembroke, Me. and whose death preceded that of her husband several years. Besides his two children, Mrs. John HODGINS of Ottawa and his son, George DOWNES, who was associated with him in business, he leaves one sister, Mrs. Caroline D. BAILEY. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon, Rev. C.G. McCully of the Congregational Church officiating. The pall bearers were Geo. S.D. LEAVITT, Geo. A. CURRAN, Wm A. MURCHIE, Geo. H. June 22 - The beautiful old homestead of Judge DOWNES of Calais was the scene of a brilliant wedding, the principals being his daughter Miss Mina Augusta DOWNES and Major John HODGINS, senior member of a prominent law firm of Ottawa, Ontario. Capt. McDONNELL of the Fredericton military school was groomsman and Miss COLL of New York, bridesmaid. The marriage ceremony took place at 6 o'clock. Rev. C.G.
