IMOGENE ELSIE BLOCK

Imogene Elsie Block of Austin, TX passed away in her home Tuesday morning, September 4, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born on July 27, 1925 to Fred Edward and Edna Elizabeth Quearry.

Imogene was a patriot: a riveter during WWII and the wife of a Pearl Harbor survivor, Imogene spent many Memorial and Veterans Days laying wreaths for our fallen veterans. She was an honored guest for many years at the Chiefs' pinning ceremony and was presented with awards for her love and dedication to our nation's veterans. She will be remembered for her classy looks: lipstick and high heels as she donned her apron and pitched in to help. She was a strong and stubborn woman, loved and admired by many.

She met her true love, Albert Block, a handsome Navy sailor, in San Diego, CA, and they were married only six weeks later. She followed him around the United States as a Navy wife until they finally settled down in Texas. Together, their stories were rich, their romance like one plucked from the scenes of a classic movie. The song "Silver Wings" was never played without her sweetheart seeking her out for a dance. Her heart was broken August 30, 2008 when he went home to his Lord after 62 years of marriage.

Imogene moved with Al and their children to Austin, TX in 1972 and formed many friendships there. She was active with her children and their activities and was a loving, supportive wife to Al. She loved to travel, and they spent 25 years rv-ing together during their retirement years, traveling the nation, visiting family and going to conventions.

Imogene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert, in 2008, and her three sisters, Agnes Dunham, Dorothy Lee, and Augusta May.

She is survived by her five children, Carolyn Cooper; Bonnie Garrison and husband Bill; Al Block Jr. and wife Dana; Donald Block and wife Sandra; and Barbara McDavid and husband Ron, her 20 grandchildren, and her 22 great grandchildren who knew her as "Gigi."

Pallbearers will be grandsons Bryon, Al, Michael, Adam, David, Bryce, Tyler, Zachary, and Scott.

Visitation will be held at Beck Funeral Home Pflugerville, TX Thursday, September 6th, 6-8. Funeral services will be Friday, September 7th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church Pflugerville, TX. Fellowship immediately following service. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen.
