He was the son of Fred and Katherine (Dircksen) Bergman. On Sep 27, 1947, in St. Patrick, he married Norma Berning, who survives in Botkins.
Also surviving are four sons: Tom (Mary), McDonough, GA, Nicholas, Jr., Jackson Center, Ron (Jeanie) and John (Janet), both Botkins; six daughters: Diane (Joe) Pohlman, Cassella, Betty (fiancé Joe Mescher) Shardo, Versailles, Mary (friend Mike Schneider) Moeller, New Bremen, Linda (Melvin) Behr, Wapakoneta, Jeanne (Tom) Boerger, Ft. Loramie, and Elaine (Steve) Luthman, Anna; and forty grandchildren and forty-seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers: Joseph, Bill and Herb; and two sisters: Cecelia Bergman and Eleanor Flaute.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rhine, and church custodian for 19 years. He was a veteran of the US Army in the Philippines during WWII and a member of American Legion Post 241 New Bremen. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, baseball and his grandchildren. He was a retired farmer and also worked at Ross Aluminum, Sidney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, with Revs. Pat Slonecker and Dan Hess officiating.
