The eldest child of James Boals (b. Ireland) and Mary Margaret Clifford (b. Ohio), his father died when he was a boy and he was assigned a guardian by the Tuscarawas Co., Ohio Probate Court. He moved to Illinois as a young man and served in the Illinois Infantry as a Sargeant. He married in Tazewell Co., Illinois on September 8, 1862 to Miss Phoebe M. Humphrey. She was born in 1842 in Ohio and died in 1881. They had three children: Clifford, Almata, and Albert H. Albert C. sold his share in his grandparent's estate (James and Nancy Boals) to his cousin, Henry Carver, sometime between 1866 - 1868. The family moved to Iowa ca. 1872 where Albert was a grocer and confectioner. He died at the boarding house in which he had lived for the last 20 years of his life.
