Obituary

Easley- James Clowney Brice, 81, football coach at Easley High School for 19 years and a member of the Furman University Hall of Fame, died Wednesday in a Greenville hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Easley Presbyterian Church. A private burial, directed by Robinson Funeral Home, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Brice was born in Chester, a son of William White Brice and Magaret Clowney Brice. He joined the faculty of Easley High School in 1929, where he was a teacher and athletic coach. He also coached the football team until 1948.

His football team won the state championship in 1937, the same year he was invited to coach the first South Carolina Shrine Bowl team. He was a member of the Easley Athletic Hall of Fame and Easley Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife Rosalie St. Armand Poole Brice; a son, Dr. James C. Brice of Easley; a sister, Margaret Brice Alexander of Charleston; and two grandchildren.
