Date of birth: June 23, 1846 per death certificate, June 1847 per 1900 census, June 23, 1848 per grave marker.

Marriages:
1) Nancy J. Eller, Dec. 19, 1865, Collin Co., TX.
2) "J. E. Moudy," Jan. 4, 1872 (license), Collin Co. TX. Actually Judy Evelyn Graham. Called Juda E. in 1880 census; Judy E. in the 1900 census, as the mother of 8 children, only 4 still living; Evie per her death certificate.
3) "Mrs. Lou Busby," Jan. 17, 1910, Denton Co., TX. She was Lucy (Roberts) Buzbee, former wife of John D. Buzbee, by whom she had four children.

Per his death certificate:
Single, Married, Widowed or Divorced: "widower & divorced."
Husband of: "Evie Rogers wife that died."
Informant: Hugh Rogers [grandson - son of daughter Ollie and Clayton's cousin Dennis Rogers].

Notes on wives:
1) Nancy. The date on her gravestone has been reported as 1889. The stone is broken and in poor condition, with both the year of birth and death missing. The 1889 date should be 1868 or 1869. The biographical sketch of her brother George W. Eller in the Biographical Souvenir of the State of Texas (Chicago: F. A. Battey & Co., 1889), p. 276, reports "To the marriage of Harrison Eller and wife were born the following children - . . . and Nancy, who was married to Clayton Rogers, but who died in 1868." Thus she died before Clayton married Evie in 1872, but after son Finley was born on Dec. 16, 1868, which would suggest 1869.
- Two children: Asa M. & Finley W.
2) Evie. On the delayed birth certificates of daughters Mary Elizabeth (Bessie) and Ethel Anna, their mother is called Evelyn Graham Mowdy, with both sisters apparently agreeing on the name when they filed for their certificates in 1941. Where did the Mowdy come from? Evie was born about 1850 and married Clayton Rogers in 1872. Was she married briefly to a Mowdy before marrying Clayton Rogers? Daughter Bessie named one of her sons Graham S. Rogers and one of her daughters Frances Evelyn Rogers.
- History of the Rogers Family in the handwriting of John T. Rogers (1843-1898), written c1895: "Clayton Maried Nanncy Ellir She dide and he [married] Eva Graham." (The spelling is as in the original.)
- History of the Rogers Family by Rev. Thomas G. Rogers (1847-1930) (the same history as above, but a slightly later pre-1920 version in a typeset booklet): "Clayton's first wife was Nancy J. Eller; his second wife was Eva Graham." (Note: Although this booklet carries Thos. G. Rogers' by-line, he may not have been the original author. At a minimum he may have added his father William's grandchildren to the text.)
- Four children who survived to adulthood: Ollie E., Joseph V. ("Jody"), Mary Elizabeth ("Bessie") & Ethel Anna.
