Elizabeth "Beth" Wren Belcher, age 79, recently of Atlanta, Ga., passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Dotson Belcher.
She was born April 5, 1927, in Red Bay, Ala., and attended Ole Miss and Larremore Business College at Ole Miss.
She was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was a member of North Wood United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Fidelis Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women and the administrative board of the church.
She started a kindergarten in Red Bay and later was a substitute teacher in Florence City Schools. She delivered Meals on Wheels, was a Red Cross volunteer at ECM Hospital and a member of WCTU.
She is survived by sons, Michael Steele, Otto, N.C., Steve Steele, Huntsville; daughter, Mae Beth Chiarella, Atlanta, Ga.; stepsons, Bennie Belcher, Florence, Thomas Belcher, Florence; stepdaughter, Judy Liles, Florence; granddaughters, Liza Steele and Lauren Steele; grandsons, Joshua Steele, Adam Chiarella and Jason Chiarella.
The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Peter Hawker will officiate, with burial to follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Northwood United Methodist Church.
