Carmen Gerbino, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at her residence.

She was born July 7, 1929, to Leo William Allen and Fern Augusta (Mount) Allen in Shelbyville. She married James Vincent Gerbino in Maryland, on July 21, 1958, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2003.

Survivors include a niece, Rebecca Polston; six nephews, Scott Polston and Mark Polston, both of Shelbyville, Steve Polston of Indianapolis, Joseph Gerbino, Anthony Gerbino and Leonard Gerbino Jr., all of Michigan; brother-in-law, Phil Polston of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Mary Gerbino of Michigan; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant brother, Paul Anthony Allen; sister, Patricia June (Allen) Polston; and brothers-in-law, Leonard & Vito Gerbino.

Mrs. Gerbino was a resident of the area since 1999. She owned Value Book Center in Greensburg & Shelbyville until her retirement in 2009. Prior to that, she had done clerical work at Dean Pump Co. of Indianapolis for several years. Carmen loved reading and enjoyed her many dogs she shared over the years with Jim.

Private graveside services were held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, with Pastor Mark Joplin and nephew, Steve Polston officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
