TERRE HAUTE — Marie Fagg, 95, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She had been employed with St. Anthony's Hospital, Wadleys, and Union Hospital having retired in 1972 after many years of service. She was born on Sept. 17, 1917, in Libertyville, Ind., to Ornolf and Fern Funkhouser. She was the oldest in a family of 11 children, six boys and five girls. Marie's early years were spent on a farm in the general area where she was born. She attended Fayette Township Schools in Vigo County. Her goal was to be a school teacher. In the ninth grade at the age of 14 years, she withdrew to go to work to help support her family.

On Jan. 26, 1936, she married Richard R. Fagg. They were blessed with five children; one girl and four boys. On Oct. 19, 1982, Richard, her husband of 46 years, preceded her in death and they are now reunited in heaven.

Survivors include her daughter, Almary Freeman of West Terre Haute; four sons and daughters-in-law, Wilford and Rosalie Fagg of West Terre Haute, Richard and Mauvie Fagg of Westville, Gary and Elee Fagg of West Terre Haute, and Jim and Kathy Fagg of Rosedale; two sisters, Ruth Fagg of Newton, Iowa, and Joy Slavens of Coatesville; three brothers, Harlan Funkhouser of Elizabethtown, Ky., Clyde Funkhouser of Terre Haute, and Clint Funkhouser of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and prior to services Saturday.
