She was born in German, New York, which is in Chenango County. In 1819, she married Asa Welton. He was a successful farmer and businessman, and he raised sheep. One day, while Clarissa was pregnant with their first child, he left home for a short business trip. But he was never seen again. She later gave birth to a little girl she named Ruth, who was born on Feb. 25, 1820. Around 1827, Clarissa got remarried to Daniel Pulsipher. He was from Vermont, the son of David Pulsipher and Terza Newton. Clarissa and Daniel moved to Kirtland, Ohio, which is in Geauga County. In 1832, Clarissa's daughter Ruth became a Mormon. Clarissa and Daniel joined the Mormons in 1836. Clarissa and Daniel had three children (David, Ezekiel, and Elsie). They soon went to Illinois with other Mormons. Daniel died there, in 1843. But in 1846, Clarissa's son David left her and his two younger siblings, to join the Mormon Battalion. After that, he mined gold for a few years. Seventeen years after he left his mother and siblings, he returned to them, in 1863. His mother Clarissa died, the following year.
