Mary Alice Wade Julian was born in Wylie, Collin County Texas. She moved with her family to Dallas in 1905 where she attended public school. At 20 years of age she signed a contract with the Sells Floto Circus. She joined Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus and performed as the fat lady "Alice from Dallas" for 20 years.
