Vern Duane McDonald was born March 1, 1915 in Mallory, MN, the son of William and Catherine (Stewart) McDonald. He was raised and educated in Mallory. After graduation from Mallory High School, he moved to Grand Forks, ND.
In 1936, Vern began his employment with The Ireland Lumber Company of Grand Forks, ND. He served as general manager and vice president and later served on the board of directors until his retirement in 1980. Following his retirement, he resided in Grand Forks until his death.
Vern married Isabelle Cariveau-Helm on January 8, 1957 in East Grand Forks, MN. She preceded him in death on October 13, 1988.
Vern is survived by, his daughters, Sandra Sorbo and Peggy Anderson, both of Edmonds, WA; a stepson, Marvin Helm; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by, his parents; his wife, Isabelle; sisters, Katherine Howe and Agnes Blatchford; brothers Norman McDonald and Stanley McDonald; stepson, Gordon Helm and a granddaughter, Gerri Lynn Sorbo.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2004 in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, Grand Forks.
Family Greeting: 1 hr. before the service in the funeral chapel.
Interment: Sunnywood Gardens, Grand Forks, ND.
