Jesse Franklin "Toad" Gump, 90, of Joes Run, Mannington, passed away Sunday (Feb. 3, 2013) at his residence.

He was born Jan. 11, 1923 in Mannington, a son of the late Albert Gump and Aliza Dixon Gump.

He is survived by four chil­dren, James Gump and wife Peggy of Graff, Mo., Edward Gump and wife Doris of Mannington, Alice Gump of Mannington, and Ronald Gump and wife Tina of Mannington; a stepson, Edward Fetty of Joetown; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 13 great­grandchildren; four step-great­grandchildren; one great-great­grandchild; one half-sister, Ethel Varner of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ellen Villers Gump, who died in 2006; one great-grandson; four sisters, Ellen, Dory, Rosalee and Maxine; three brothers, Nick, Bob and J.R.; and one niece and one nephew.

Jesse was a heavy equipment operator for the West Virginia Division of Highways with 32 years of service. He was a "jack of all trades" and he enjoyed "widdling."

Family and friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, from 2:30-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Joe Pat Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Whetstone Cemetery.
