Roberta Jeanne Schumacher Zook Smith, 84, passed away surrounded by her family Feb. 3, 2013, at the Franklin County Medical Center.

Jeanne was born in Caldwell, Idaho, on Feb. 4, 1928, to Walter Schumacher and Estelle Marie Vaughn Schumacher. Her father passed away just before her birth. She spent her early years in Caldwell with her older siblings, brother Walter "Bud" and sisters Mary Ann and Alice. When she was a teenager she moved to California with her mother to help take care of her grandmother.

She married Joseph Earl Zook on April 10, 1946, in Elko, Nev. They moved several times because of Joe's employment, but most of their married life was spent in Idaho and Utah. Jeanne enjoyed fishing with Joe and raising her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother. Her children especially loved her homemade bread. Joe passed away in 1966 leaving her with the difficult task of raising her children on her own.

Jeanne married Verdell Smith in April 1978 in Elko, Nev. They lived in Franklin, Idaho, where Jeanne worked for several years at DelMonte. She enjoyed camping and being with friends and family. Verdell and Jeanne adopted one of her grandsons.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Joe and Verdell; brother Walter "Bud"; sister MaryAnn; and son Duane. She is survived by her sister Alice; sons, Dennis Zook, Dana (Leslie) Zook, Lonny (Shauna) Zook, Jace (Juanita) Zook, Patrick (Cindy) Zook and Jerry (Lona) Smith; and daughters Vicki (Frank) Michael, Charmaine (Alan) Carter and Candice Zook.
