Lester D. Friesen, age 65, passed away Friday February 1, 2013 in Sioux Falls.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Monday February 4th at Miller Funeral Home 13th & Main Avenue. Funeral services begin at 2:00 pm Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Pastoral Care.

Lester D. Friesen, son of Herman and Lorene (Siebert) Friesen, was born July 31, 1947 in York, Nebraska. He was baptized upon the profession of his faith in May of 1965 at Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson, Nebraska. Lester graduated from Henderson High. He then attended the Freeman Jr. College in Freeman, South Dakota.

Lester was united in marriage to Joan Hehn on August 10, 1968 in Bakersfield, California. The couple later made their home in Sioux Falls, where he drove truck for the ABF Company for over 25 years. At the age of 47, Lester was involved in an accident that left him disabled. For the last 15 years he has resided at Prince of Peace where he will be remembered for his laughter, singing and his smiling face. Joan preceded him in death in January of 2003. In his earlier years he enjoyed gardening, roses, hunting, shooting pool, golfing and watching his daughters, and son-laws, play softball. He enjoyed interacting with his grandchildren.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and previously in the choir and ushered at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two daughters, Kim (Paul) Warkenthien, Baltic, SD, Stacey (Jeff) Rietz, Sioux Falls, four grandchildren, Josey and Casey Warkenthien and Madison and Nathan Rietz, his mother, Lorene Friesen, Henderson, NE, his siblings, Carol Friesen, Lincoln, NE, Homer (Susan) Friesen, and Berdon (Lori) Friesen, both of Henderson, Delwayne (LaVonne) Friesen, Bradshaw, NE, Dellene (Matt) Friesen, Henderson, Ardean Friesen, Goshen, IN, Ardell (Carol) Friesen, Crete, NE, and Nelda (Kip) Riley, Stromsburg, NE.

His father, wife Joan and brother-in-law, Russell Friesen, preceded him in death.
