Carl J Dige; Was Acting Police Chief
Ashfield - Carl J Dige, 76, of Ashburnham, former constable and acting chief of police for Ashfield, died Thursday in Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton.
Born here, he worked for Robert H Nye Plumbing and Electric Co. several years and the went into the electrical business under his own name. He retired 11 years ago.
Mr Dige was active in many civic programs. He lived in Ashfield for 66 years.
He leaves his wife the former Carrie Philbrick; a step-son David Philbrick of Ashby, and a sister Dorothea Bush of Conway.
The funeral will be Sunday at McCarthy funeral home, Greenfield, and cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Fund, in care of Edward Russell at Pioneer Bank, West Main Street, Greenfield.
