Clarence H. Matteson, 81, of 65 Harrison Avenue, Greenfield, half brother of Miss Annie Matteson of 103 Main St,this city, died last night at the Farren Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, following an illness of several months.

He was born Feb. 4, 1878, a son of the late Mr and Mrs Charles Matteson. He retired last November after many years as a telegrapher with the Boston and Maine railroad. He had resided in Greenfield, for the past 21 years and prior to that was a telegraph operator at the Zoar station in Charlemont.

His wife, the former Eva M. Young, died Aug 11, 1959.

Besides his half sister, Miss Matteson, he leaves several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at 1:30 on Friday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will be at the Leavitt Cemetery in Charlemont.
