Great sorrow entered the home of one of our friends when death the grim reaper, claimed Alfred Henry Steinbeck on Christinas eve at 10 minutes till 6 o'clock, at his home east of Moneta.

Mr. Steinbeck, who was born on October 12, 1900, attained the age of 31 years, two months and 12 days. He was the son of the late William Steinbeck and Annie, nee Merkord and was born on a farm near Sanborn. He was baptized
in infancy by the Lutheran minister at Sanborn.

On February 24, 1926 he was united in marriage with Miss Sophia Schoelerman, daughter of the late Henry Schoelerman and Mollie, nee Sindt. Their union was blessed with three children, one of whom, a little boy, preceded his father in death in earliest infancy.

Ever since the fateful year of 1918 when he had contracted the dreadful influenza, his health had not been good. In recent months it was entirely undermined by Bright's disease, and another attack of influenza with
complications, brought his life to a premature end. He passed away quietly.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sophia Steinbeck; his two children, Virginia Mae and William Henry; his mother, Mrs. Annie Steinbeck of Hartley; his brother John near Hartley; two sisters, Mrs. Will Vandemark and Mrs.
Martin Westphal; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mollie Schoelerman of Monrovia, Cal; three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law; four nephews, two nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Three sisetrs preceded him in death in their Infancy. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, December 28, at the home of the deceased at one o'clock in the afternoon, and at two o'clock at Trinity Evangelical church at Hartley. Rev. F. W. Budy officiated. The mixed quartet sang three beautiful selections. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Everly, Iowa.
