Robert Allen Caldwell, 63, of 6381 Renan Rd., Hurt died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Hammock Caldwell. He was born February 20, 1949 in Lynchburg, a son of the Rev. Samuel F. Caldwell of Rustburg and the late Carol Tweedy Caldwell. He was a member of Edge Hill Baptist Church for over twenty-five years where he served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Deacon. Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Grit Ruritan Club, the Campbell County Historical Society, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and a charter member of the Altavista Memorial American Legion Post 36. He was most recently a bus driver for the Campbell County School System and a former employee of FWC, Inc. and Yeatts Transfer Company. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, Sherwood Caldwell of Hurt and Jacob Caldwell and his wife Jerusha of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Nina, Noah, Samantha, and Shyla Caldwell; a brother, Arthur R. (Ray) Caldwell and his wife Kay of Altavista; and a sister, Dana Mosebrook and her husband Bill of Gladys. He was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Caldwell. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 4, 2013 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Chris Brooks, Rev. Billy Robertson, and Dr. Fred Milacci with military honors by V.F.W. Post 4165 and Altavista Memorial American Legion Post 36. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Sunday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
