Mary Virginia Elizabeth Martin Ayoob passed away in Rancho Mirage on July 6, 2004. Virginia was born October 30, 1920 in Tennessee to Daly Winslow and Mintie Pearl Lewis Martin. When she was an infant the family moved to Porterville, California.

Virginia graduated from Galt High School in 1937 and then attended Healds Business School. She moved to Portola in 1939 to join the rest of the family that had recently moved to the area. She worked in the office of Sierra Pacific Power until 1942 when she married George Ayoob.

Virginia raised her three sons in Portola. She moved to Rancho Mirage in 1999. During her many years in Portola she was very civic minded. She held the office of president in each of the organizations she was a member of.

The many organizations included Portola Soroptimist, Eastern Plumas Dist. Hospital Auxiliary and Hospital Board of Directors March of Dimes, 4-H, Little League, and PTA. She also enjoyed a good game of Bridge. Her husband George owned Ayoob's Department Store in Portola and she helped in the store when needed.

She is survived by sons Jim of Roseville and Joe of Chico; Sisters Babe ONeill of Portola and Lora Humphrey of Rancho Cordova; Brother Bill Martin of Fort Mohave, Arizona; grandchildren Adam Van Dyke, Traci Cetraro and Jana Rua and great-grandchild Zoey Rua.

Preceded by husband George and son Tom. Graveside Funeral Service will be at Noon on Thursday, July 15th in Whispering Pines Cemetery, Portola.
