Sebastian was born in the city of Sendelbach in the Bavarian State of Germany and emigrated to New York from Bremen Germany in 1887 on the SS Lloyd. He settled in Portland Oregon becoming a successful saloon and hotel keeper in the early 1900's and became a naturalized US citizen in 1921 at age 57. He was the husband of Lydia and father of six daughters; Amellia, Minnie, Antonia, Marion, Pauline and Lydia.

On July 6, 1923 he traveled from Portland to San Francisco on the steamer ship Rose City and was found robbed and murdered in a Mission Street alley on July 12, 1923.
