A funeral service to celebrate the life of Marvin B. Davis, of Camden, 91, with Masonic Rites and the Legion Honor Guard will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Camden with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mr. Davis's memory to First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020. Mr. Davis died Monday, March 14, 2011, Born in Charlotte Thompson Community, he was the son of the late Asa Richard Davis and Hallie Jordan Thompson Davis. Both of his parents and two sisters died in the Cleveland School Fire and he was raised by his "Aunt Lottie". He was the widower of Dorothy Evelyn Jackson Davis. He was a US Army Air Corp WWII Veteran, a member of the James Leroy Belk Post #17 of the American Legion, a member and past Master of Kershaw Lodge #29 , Camden Shrine Club and the Camden Highsteppers. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was recently recognized as the oldest active deacon, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Silvertones. Mr. Davis was also a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #421. Surviving are his daughters, Marian Elaine Davis of Columbia and Garey L. Davis Gibbs and her husband John Walter Gibbs, Sr. of Yemassee; grandchildren, Lisa R Wilkerson and her husband Len of Columbia, John Walter Gibbs, Jr. of University of SC; great-grandchildren, Jordan Renee Rye and Andrew Thomas Rye. He was predeceased by sisters, Leila Mae Davis, Lina White Davis and Sarah Marguerite D. Trice; brothers, James Thompson Davis, John McRoy Davis and Charles Henry Davis Harkness.
