Topeka State Journal Tuesday 6 July, 1976, pg. 23:

Elmer M. Jarvis, 65, 1140 NE 54th, was dead on arrival at a Topeka hospital Sunday. He had a heart attack. He was born June 3, 1911 at Garber, Okla. and lived at Cushing, Okla. before he moved to Emporia in 1945. He lived at Emporia 16 years before he moved to Topeka in 1961.

He was employed by Santa Fe Railway many years before he retired 3 years ago. He was a car inspector at Emporia and later was a carman in Topeka. He was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene and Shawnee Lodge No. 887 of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen.

He was married to Dessie Escoe November 1, 1931 at Cushing Okla. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Jarvis.

Other survivors include 4 sons, Ronald I. Jarvis, Elgin, Ill., Marion D Jarvis, Neosho Rapids, Theron L. Jarvis, New Orleans, La., and Roland Wayne Jarvis, Topeka; and 5 daughters, Mrs. Eudora Brown, Oklahoma City, Mrs. Rosalea Lambert, Emporia, Mrs. Leona R. Sparks, Tonganoxie, Mrs. Elmira L. Marten, Oswego, and Mrs. Joyce Hammond, Emporia.

Also surviving are a brother, James D. Jarvis, Payette, Idaho; 4 sisters, Mrs. Alice Cheever, Vallejo, Calif., Mrs. Lola Giem, Guthrie, Okla. and Mrs. Pearl Fent and Mrs. Melinda Boers, both of Enid, Okla; and 23 grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home at Emporia with burial in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
