Mr. Shivers was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Florence. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran serving in World War II and was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Evening Star Lodge #70 and Wahabi Temple Shriner. He and his wife Polly owned and operated Florence Telephone Company and then spent his life as a gentleman farmer of Lazy S Farms.
Mr. Shivers is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Polly Harrison Shivers. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Katterjohn of Florence and her daughters, Katie Katterjohn and Martha Katterjohn and Elizabeth Frohse (Thomas Tischer) of Philadelphia and her children CMDR Richard (Laura) Whitfield and Lewis (Jill) Whitfield III; 7 great grandchildren, and sister, Sarah Victoria Davidson of Kilbourn, LA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Florence Building Fund.
