Gladys C. Buntrock, age 87 of Clintonville, formerly of Marion, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday evening June 8, 2011 at the Shawano Medical Center.
Gladys was born on October 24, 1923 in Kenosha, WI as the daughter of the late Rudolph and Alma (Ertner) Fehler. On April 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Roland "Rollie" Buntrock in Tigerton. The married couple moved to a farm near Tigerton until 1949 when they moved to a farm near Pella where they farmed until 1960. Rollie and Gladys then operated "Rollie & Gladys's Bar" in Pella until 1975 when they retired and moved to Marion. Rollie preceded his wife in death on July 12, 1986. Gladys was a current member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Marion. She moved to the Clintonville area in the early 1990s. Gladys was a very colorful woman in so many ways. She had multiple nicknames, her license plate read "Happy B", and she was quite a hostess to say the least. Gladys also loved visiting with her friends, especially while bartending at her son's bar; "Bun's Fireside" where she always had the dice box handy. She was a wonderful cook and made sure that you never left her house hungry. Gladys loved her family very much which was evident with the huge smile she would get while talking about her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her "casino runs", playing cards, and fishing trips whenever she had the chance. Needless to say Gladys will be missed greatly, but her contagious personality will live on through her family and friends.
