Lowell Henry Fryer, 58, rural Canton, Mo.; passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his home. He was born on August 7, 1945, in St. Patrick, Mo., the son of Basil and Rachel Ellison Fryer. He was united in marriage to Lynda Dochterman Job on January 6, 2001, at their home near St. Patrick, Mo. Mr. Fryer graduated from Canton R-V High School in 1963. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1963-1967, serving a tour of duty in the Vietnam War from 1965-1966 with the 11th Pathfinder Division, 11th Aviation Group and 1st Calvary Division. He was stationed in Vietnam during the Ia Drang Valley Battles at LZ X-ray and LZ Albany. He attended jump school in Ft. Benning, Ga., and was a member of the 1st Calvary Assoc. and attended their annual reunion since 1986. He was the Asst. Lockmaster for the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers at the LaGrange Lock & Dam in Versailles, Ill., and owned and operated Fryer's Farm Services. Mr. Fryer enjoyed hunting, reading, and spending time with his family, he loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and enjoyed good times with good friends. He was a member of the American Legion Otto Bruner Post 170, LaGrange-Canton VFW, Lifetime member of of Eagles Arie #1800, Whitetails Unlimited, and NRA. He is survived by wife Lynda Fryer, Canton; six children, Anne Dixson, Canton, and fiance Jeff McDaniel, Jacksonville, Ill., Tracy Fryer and Lonnie Foust, anton, Joey Fryer and wife Sarah, Canton, Jake Job and wife Jackie, Rolla, Mo., Heather Glasgow and husband Tim, St. Patrick, Mo., and Jesse Job, Canton, and his friend Brittany Hines, Maywood; three grandchildren, Parker and Chase Dixson, and Mason Fryer. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Charlene Dochterman, Canton; two brothers, Joe M. Fryer, Canton, and Basil (Jr.) Fryer and wife Ann, Keokuk, Ia.; four sisters, Marianna Gredell and husband Joe, Keokuk, I., Mildred Bishop, Westland, Mich., Katie Coney and husband Bill, Hamilton, Ill., and Nancy Boatman and husband James, Wayland, Mo.; brother-in-law, Allan Dochterman and wife Rosie, Williamstown, two sisters-in-law, Mary Bentley and husband, Ken, Bloomington, Ill., Barb Taylor and husband Larry, Canton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ilene Fox; father-in-law, Carmen Dochterman; sister-in-law, Shirley Fryer; two brothers-in-law, Don Fox and Junior Bishop; two nieces, Martha Ann Gredell, and Brenda Susan Coney; and one nephew Steven Joseph Coney. Visitation was Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Arnold's Funeral Home in Canton, with a special memorial service. Graveside services were Saturday, July 31, 2004, at St. Patrick Cemetery in St. Patrick, Mo., with Fr. James Wheeler officiating, with graveside military honors by Otto Bruner Post 170. Honorary Pallbearers were Harry Murtha, Jim Piper, Terry Sloan, Terry Winters, David Allen, Ronnie Horner, Ed Kotch, Henry Dooley, Mark Shuman, Ron Job, Mark Otte, Larry Stone, Jerry Hamilton, Mark Shaller, Larry Taylor, and Allen (Doc) Dochterman. Memorials may be made to Victory Junction-camp for disabled children, Whitetails Unlimited, or 1st Calvary Assoc.- Scholarship fund.
