Rose Jacquelyn Joyner Abernathy, 82, of Emporia, widow of Marion Willis Abernathy passed away on June 25, 2012. She is survived by a son, Willis Wayne Abernathy and wife Renee' of Marietta, Georgia, daughter Leah Abernathy Luongo and husband Bruce of Williamsburg, Virginia, three grandsons; Michael Luongo, Andrew and Stephen Abernathy; granddaughter, Hope Abernathy; sister Besty Joyner Scholz and husband Fritz of Leesburg, Virginia; niece, Paula Joyner Ligon of Emporia; two nephews, Wayne Skinner and wife Sandra of Richmond and Wynn Skinner of Emporia and a great niece, Randi Ligon of Raleigh, North Carolina. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Rd, Jarratt, Virginia. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Monumental United Methodist Church in Emporia with burial to follow at Capron Cemetery, Capron, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Monumental United Methodist Church, 300 Southampton Street, Emporia, Virginia 23847.
