The story told by my father, aunts & uncles that Simpson was from Kentucky and that Simpson and his brother Orville took turns carrying Otho; Simpson's' eldest child; as a baby (about 6 months old) alongside of a covered wagon to take the weight off the oxen (horses?) on their trip to Wood Ohio.

Since that time I have found that Simpson was born in Green Township, Brown County, Ohio located on the north side of the Ohio River from Kentucky. When Simpson first traveled to Wood County, Ohio remains unanswered. Records show on January 28, 1891 Simpson and Alice Elizabeth Hall were married in Pulaski, Kentucky. Alice was born in Portage Township, Wood County, Ohio on the 9th of September, 1865; her parents having an established farm there and both later passing in Wood County.

From their union eight children were born as follows:
Otho Trenton 1890 – 1952, married Nita Marie Lee
Anrilla "Rilla" Allura 1891 – 1964, married Alva Albert Walden
Vesta 1893 – 1893
Cloyde Claren 1895 – 1902
Aletha Leona 1897 – 1921, married Amos Elmer Babcock
Ivan Cloyce 1901 – 1960, never married
Zelena 1903 – 1986, married Clayton Deaver Aldrich
Cleophus Deloy 1908 – 1974, married Connie Marie Wilson

Simpson's parents; both natives of Highland, Ohio; moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky in the later 1800's. Weather Simpson traveled to Kentucky to help with the move, his wedding, a separate visit, or intended to stay in Kentucky is a story that may never be known. Simpson & Orville's return trip was in the summer of 1891; both settling in Portage, Wood County, Ohio. Simpson's second child was born in Wood County on November 2, 1891.

Through out his life he worked in the farming industry and in his later years had a farm in Seneca County, Ohio by Old Fort (on road east of Old Fort?).

I have been told; Simpson Grant & Alice Elizabeth "Hall" Crawford were buried between the 2 headstones of Children of S.G. & A. Crawford and Aletha "Crawford" Babcock; by Bertha Leota "Crawford" Bloom, Clifford Dale Crawford; children of Otho Trenton Crawford; and James Alva Crawford; son of Cleophus Deloy Crawford; in or prior to 1987.

He has always been referred to me as Ulysses Simpson Grant Crawford. Through all the records I have searched I have only found him referred to as Simpson or Grant Crawford. In Rilla Allura's obituary he is referred to as Ulysses Crawford.
