James Douglas Callahan, age 85 of Jacksonville, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 in Cabot. He was born January 25, 1928 in Ellington, Missouri to the late Grover Cleveland and Eunice Belva Mooney Callahan. On January 27, 1951 he married Jane Higgins in Potosi, Missouri. Mr. Callahan was the owner and operator of Callahan Asphalt and Paving in Cottleville, Missouri. He was very active in the Cottleville Community where he was the former Mayor of Cottleville; served as the Commissioner of the Cottleville Volunteer Fire Department; a member of the YMCA Board, and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He moved to Jacksonville in 1990 where he was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Jacksonville and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane on November 4, 2006; his beloved daughter, Elizabeth Mary Callahan; and eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by three children and their spouses; Sandie and Glen Miller, Dennis and Linda Callahan, Denise and Bob Rawnick; ten grandchildren, Mollie, Gabriel, Teri, Charissa, Patrick, John, James, Adam, Sarah and Emily; ten great grandchildren; four sisters, Thelma, Faye, Nita and Eloise; and one brother, Buell.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Calvary Cemetery in Potosi, Missouri.
