Joe was born in the Sissonville area of WV. the son of Elmore Marion Derrick & Nancy Ellen HACKNEY.
He married Vella B. CARNEY in Charleston, WV Aug. 26, 1926 who was born in Putnam Co. Liberty, WV. and later had moved to Charleston West Side with her parents and siblings.
Surviving: daughter, Mrs. Marieda M. Edens of Charleston, brother Estil Derrick of Sissonville; three grandchildren, Rusty, Vicki and Gerry Edens, and two great-grandchildren, Scott and Bruce Edens.
