Final rites for Thomas J. Melson, 69, Danville 2 farmer, were to be held this afternoon at 2 P. M. at Johnson's chapel. Burial was to be in chapel cemetery with Brown's directing.
Mr. Melson died Tuesday at 5 P. M. at his home after a long illness.
He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Gillespie, Mrs. Annie Daniel and Mrs. Lily Tyler; seven sons, George, Walter, Jimmy, Tennis, Dennis, Tommy and Loyd Melson; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Melson; three brothers, Will, George and Sam Melson.
Originally published in The Decatur Daily on Wednesday, June 30, 1948 ~ In the World War I Draft Registration of September 12, 1918, he was described as medium height, stout build with light brown eyes and black hair. Mr. Melson was 37 years old at the time and farming for himself. He and his wife, Mary L. Johnson Melson were residents of Route 3, Moulton, Lawrence County, Alabama. ~
