Art McVoy

Art McVoy passed away on September 9, 2000. As a husband, father, grandfather and friend he will be greatly missed. Born in Wells County Indiana, raised in Huntington and Elkhart, Indiana. Art joined the Army when he was 16 years old and was stationed at Ft. Lewis for three years. After the Army, he became a Barber and operated his own barbershop. In 1958, he joined the Tacoma Fire Department, retiring in 1972. After retirement, Art opened a small engine repair shop in 1982 and had a great time running the shop until 1993. Art loved to tra- vel, read non-fiction, garden and enjoy his grandson. Survived by wife of 49 years, Marilyn; daughter, Janis (Gordon) Garcia; sons, James and Joseph (Laurie); and grandson, Sean McVoy. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Walter and Beverly Hamilton, Pat Baker, Treva McVoy (Fla.), Ruth McVoy (Ind.) and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by parents, John and Bessie McVoy; sisters, Ruby Kramer, Ina De Guzman, Emma Eckert, Adeline Hardacre; brothers, Darol, John, Harold, William, Kenneth, Donald, Glendale and Carl McVoy. Private services were held. No flowers please, donations may be made to the Firefighter Burn Center or American Heart Association.
