Funeral services for Fred E. Abbott, 71, who died at his home at 302 South College Drive Monday morning, will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. LLoyd G. Caraway will officiate and burial will be made in Oak Grove cemetery.
Mr. Abbott was born at Reading, Michigan, March 24, 1861, a son of the Rev. James Reilly Abbott, founder of the Bowling Green Baptist church and Caroline Smith Abbott. He lived at Reading until he was 17 years of age when he came with his parents to Bowling Green where he lived the rest of his life except for four years spent in Michigan and at Rudolph.
On March 19, 1884, he was united in marriage with Sarah Clifford, daughter of P. M. Clifford, who ran the hack between Bowling Green and Haskins. Two children were born to this union, a son, James Clifford Abbott, of this city, surviving, and a daughter dying in infancy. Mrs. Abbott preceded her husband in death in 1908 and on February 5, 1910, he was united in marriage with Electa Wixon who, with their daughter, Caroline, survives him.
Mr. Abbott was a carpenter and recently had specialized in chair caning and repairing. He was well known in this city and had numerous friends here. He was the last of a family of five children. Surviving, besides his wife and two children, are seven grandchildren.
