In 1921 Gladys began her nursing career at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, New York. She soon became Assistant Director of Nursing. In 1927 she helped organize the Westchester School of Nursing. Soon after that she became head of nursing at the Tuberculosis Hospital. From 1940 to her retirement in 1953 Gladys was the Administrative Assistant to Dr Edward L Harmon, the director of Grasslands.
