TAUNTON—John M. Hagberg 78, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, Sunday Jan. 27, 2013 following a long battle with Parkinson's and stroke syndrome.

Born Jan. 12, 1935 in Livermore Falls, Maine a son of the late John W. and Delema (Poirier) Hagberg, he was a resident of Taunton for the past 3 years, and was a former longtime resident of Maine and Franklin, where he raised his children.

John was raised and educated in Lewiston, ME where he was a 1952 graduate of Lewiston High School and he earned a degree in industrial electricity from Maine Technical School.

He served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War and was discharged in 1955.

John worked as an engineer for IBM in Boston, were he enjoyed a 27 year career.

In his younger days, John enjoyed hang gliding, flying his ultra light plane and was an avid golfer for many years.

He is survived by his 4 children, John M. Hagberg, Jr. of Taunton, Pam Sobocinski of SC, Sharon Silvernail also of SC and Stephen Hagberg of Springfield; a sister Elaine Botka of Livermore Falls, ME, 8 grandchildren, Riley & Holly Hagberg, Haley & Courtney Sobocinski, Danyka, Jack, Michele Silvernail and Joseph Straccia, and his former wife Elizabeth A. (Boutilier) "Betty" Hagberg of Haines City, Fla.

He was the brother of the late Alice Peavy.

John also leaves his long time companion Florence Cronkhite of Jay, Maine.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Wed. Jan. 30th, at 2PM in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.oterifuneralhome.com. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Livermore Falls, Maine.

Calling hours are Tues. Jan. 29th, from 5-8PM at the funeral home.
