Alta May Olson, 87 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Village.
Alta May Tendler, daughter of Ervin and Rosetta (Tieman) Tendler, was born on May 27, 1925, in Wakonda, SD. She grew up in the Centerville and Dalesburg areas until third grade when her parents moved to Beresford, SD. She completed her education, graduating from Beresford High School in 1943.
She did office work in Sioux City, IA, for a short time and then returned to Beresford where she worked in Bruehler's Drug Store.
Alta was united in marriage with Hiko Bultina in 1944. She worked at the hardware supply company as bookkeeper until 1952.
Alta was united in marriage with Rodney Olson on August 15, 1952, in Marshall, MN. They made their home in Rapid City, SD, until April of 1954 when they returned to Sioux Falls. She was office manager / bookkeeper for the Sioux Falls Elks Lodge for twenty five years. She then worked as financial coordinator for the South Dakota Division of the American Cancer Society retiring in 1987.
She has been a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church since 1954, a member of WELCA, various circles, the former Altrusa Club and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed playing Bridge, embroidery, crafts, and going out to lunch with friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two special granddaughters who grew up in their home, Kelly Jo Spilker, Lincoln, NE, and her fiance' Douglas Silva, Omaha, NE, and Dawn (Daniel) Riddering, great-grandchildren Shaun and Nicole Riddering, all of Rochester, MN. Two granddaughters, Alais (Jason) Reta and Carmen Howard, grandson Ernest Howard, and five more great-grandchildren all of Las Vegas, NV. Sister-in-law Bea Tendler, Tucson, AZ; nephew Terry (Lori) Tendler, Sioux Falls, SD; niece Nancy (Micheal) Gacke, Sioux Falls, SD; a brother-in-law, Delmer (Ferne) Olson, Beresford, SD; and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Alta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rodney, a daughter Gloria Howard, and brothers Lloyd and Milton Tendler.
Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 9 pm on Friday, January 25, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
