Raymond L. "Bill" Detamore, 87, Upland, died at 1:54 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 14, 1999) at the Marion General Hospital, Marion. Mr. Detamore owned and operated the Upland Grain Company from 1945 until 1977. Prior to that he had owned and operated the Landess Feed Mill and Grant Coal & Feed Company of Marion for several years. After selling the Upland Grain Company in 1977, he remained active in farming and real estate for many years. He was a 50-year member of the Upland Lions Club. He graduated from Banquo High School in 1930 and attended Purdue University. He was born April 19, 1911, in Huntington County to William and Lucy Duncan Detamore. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Virginia Endsley Detamore; four children, including twins Burtis Detamore and Mrs. Max (Berta) Long, both of Marion, Mrs. Verle (Demona) Barrett, Dayton, Pa., and Mrs. Tom (Lamona) Miller, Marion; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Jones-Smith Funeral Home, 259 N. Main St., Upland, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Kris Sorenson and Rev. Jim Miller will officiate at the service. Burial will be at the Van Buren Cemetery, Van Buren. Preferred memorials are to the Upland Friends Church, 1101 S. Main St., Upland, IN 46989.
