Willie was born in West Memphis, Arkansas to Willie Sr and Mary Sloan Savage. Willie was the only son of four children. His parents, a sister Bessie Neal and a son Robert Ellis have all preceded him in death.

Willie and his family moved to Sikeston, MO when he was a young boy. He was educated in the Sikeston Public School system and was a member of the 1969 graduating class.

For many years, Willie was employed as an over-the-road truck driver and later employed as a bus driver with the Sikeston Public Schools.

On March 2 1992 in Benton, Missouri, Willie was united in marriage to Rita Jean Hunt.

In 1992, Elder Willie Savage joined Green Memorial Church of God in Christ in Sikeston, MO, where he was saved and filled with the precious gift of the the Holy Ghost. It was here that he was called into the ministry in1994 and was ordained as an Elder in 1999.
